Consultation Process

Our Community

What we heard from our community
York Regional Police engaged in broad community consultations to help guide the current business plan. We held public feedback sessions and met with policing partners to gather best practices to understand how we can better serve our community.

Our community identified the following priorities:

  • Increase positive interactions through programs and initiatives, especially for youth and seniors

  • Increase presence of officers within our neighbourhoods, both on proactive patrol and at community engagement events

  • Implement road safety strategies to build public awareness and address traffic concerns throughout York Region

  • Continue to educate officers on mental health and addictions to reduce stigma and improve response to people in crisis

  • Increase hiring of police officers who reflect the diversity of our region
  • Improve how information is delivered to the public by expanding use of inclusive media
  • Increase transparency and accountability to strengthen relationships with citizens and community partners
